Purpose

Illumi-Nation Global, Inc., is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charity based in the United States supporting ethical, humanitarian, equitable, and environmentally sustainable well-being. Illumi-Nation Global operates as a responsible steward of natural resources through mutual support, transparency, and accountability.

Mission

Our mission includes providing relief to populations suffering severe economic disruption as well as supporting long-term economic development through public-private-nonprofit partnerships and investment in sustainable projects that create employment in emerging and industrialized countries. To meet our mission, our activities include educating the general public about the environmental and economic benefits of solar power and how to deliver it to underserved populations and those in crisis.

Call to Action

The August 4, 2020 ammonium nitrate blast at Lebanon’s port of Beirut was a turning point for Lebanon and her diaspora. Among those in the U.S. determined to support a sustainable comeback in Lebanon are the founders of Illumi-Nation Global, who are descendants of the Lebanese municipality of Ain Arab, in the Rachaya district of the Bekaa Governate, and partner organization, Evolve Adult School.https://illumi-nationglobal.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/EMAA-partnership-logo-300×169.png

Current Project

Evolve, Illumi, the people of Ain Arab, and of Maamariyeh, in the Southern Governate of Lebanon formed a partnership to plan a set of three social enterprise projects – all powered by solar electricity – to increase energy efficiency, sustainable economic development, and public safety.  Empowering Maamariyeh and Ain Arab (EMAA) includes a civil defense center (aka fire station) and streetlighting for Maamariyeh and a guest house for Ain Arab.

Why EMAA?

Most residents and farmers of Ain Arab and Maamariyeh rely on erratic, expensive electricity from individual solar-powered generators, if they can afford them. The absence of municipality-wide grids impedes economic development, air quality, health, and safety. Drought has plagued both villages in recent decades. Water scarcity, coupled with unreliable electricity for pumping water from the town wells, has compromised agricultural yields and discouraged summertime visits and tourism. Maamariyeh hosts about 100 Syrian refugees, placing additional pressure on local services and infrastructure.

The environmental and economic situation in Ain Arab and Maamariyeh is dire. In Maamariyeh, one female resident who could not pay her electricity bill died from the summer heat in 2024. With no reduction in power costs on the horizon, the mayor and other community leaders are prioritizing streetlighting and the civil defense center as the social enterprises that will yield infrastructure improvements and new jobs and earning power.

In Ain Arab, many households and farmers rely on remittances to purchase diesel fuel for the back-up generators that supply heat in the cold, less sunny months when their solar-powered generators cannot produce sufficient electricity. However, such reliance is unsustainable; some families cannot even afford back-up generators. Because the town well no longer provides sufficient water to maintain adequate agricultural yields, let alone to increase production, a new well must be dug. The villagers will have to generate revenue for that project and a second well pump. The goal of building the guest house is to provide an immediate rental revenue source and spur establishment of a local farmers market with locally produced fruits, vegetables, herbs, oils, other foods, and crafts.

Your Donation At Work

Individuals’ donations to Illumi-Nation Global in the U.S. may be eligible for tax deduction, unlike a remittance to a non-U.S. citizen or organization. Donations will help pay for the equipment, construction, and training costs associated with all three social enterprises.

Life-Changing Impact

Your donation, in combination with institutional grant support, will brighten the future of Maamariyeh and Ain Arab. Solar power for the streetlighting, civil defense center, and guest house will reduce poverty and pollution, and the civil defense center and streetlighting will increase public safety. Fire prevention and firefighting will also preserve farmland. All three projects will increase employment opportunities, facilitate agriculture and small business, and foster safer, healthier communities.
